About The Project
Overview
For over two decades, the Al Furqan Centre has been a cornerstone for Leicester’s Muslim community — a place of prayer, learning, and togetherness. As our congregation and programmes have grown, so too has the need for a facility that can serve our diverse and expanding community.

The redevelopment envisions a modern Islamic centre that combines spiritual, educational, social, and commercial functions. It will be environmentally sustainable, financially self-sufficient, and inclusive — a landmark that embodies the mercy, knowledge, and unity at the heart of Islam.
This project is more than a building; it is an investment in our future, our youth, and our collective barakah.
Redevelopment Phases
The AlFurqan Redevelopment is structured into clear, accountable stages to ensure transparency and efficiency:

Listening to the community, gathering feedback, and shaping a design that meets local and long-term needs.

Working with Marks Barfield Architects — the award-winning team behind the Cambridge Central Mosque — to craft a centre that reflects traditional Islamic values through contemporary design.

Building a high-quality, energy-efficient structure that minimises running costs while maximising usability.

Equipping the centre for full operation, welcoming the community, and launching educational, social, and spiritual programmes.
The Design & Construction Committee oversees all technical and financial aspects of the redevelopment. Their role is to ensure that every stage meets the highest standards of safety, design quality, and value for the community.
